William Street, Balmain
In its first 150 years, this original sandstone workers cottage had many additions added one on top of another. We stripped everything back to its original form, and worked around this core to restore the original cottage to its former glory, and a new layer of harbour living beauty.

Challenges:
The site access is challenging as the access to the rear of the site, where most of the work occurred, was obstructed by the original cottage. All demolished waste and excavated soil was removed through a gap less than a metre wide. All works to the original cottage had to be approved by a heritage architect. Samples of all materials required approval prior to use.
